Devotional John 11 and Romans 8:6-11

Read John 11 and Romans 8:6-11

Devotional

Today’s devotional can be divided in two parts. The first about what Jesus did, and second about our responsibility as Christians.

The narrative on Lazarus shows God taking his time in answering a request. Prayer is our direct line with our Saviour, but experience tells us that God has his own ways. After being informed of Lazarus grave condition Jesus did not wait hours but days before acting on the request. But Jesus knew best; he knew that a great miracle would be performed in order that people would believe in him and that the Father would be glorified. We do not always understand the ways of God. God’s ways and time are higher than ours. What God asks of us is our unconditional love and trust.

Then, Romans tells us that in Christ we are a new creation delivered from the slavery of sin. As Christian, we have confessed belief in Jesus’ death and resurrection, and our complete reliance on God for our redemption. We are no longer slaves to sin, but have the strength to fight temptation through the power of the Holy Spirit. We have the responsibility to nurture the freedom we have in Christ. Our relationship with God through prayer and the Word, and obedience to his guidance are critical for a healthy Christian walk.

Prayer

Lord God, I need forgiveness for neglecting my walk with you. Help me put you first in everything through your grace and Holy Spirit’s power. In the name of Jesus, amen!
