Sadly, the issue of women in church leadership continues to divide Christians. Those against it regularly point to a few specific passages that appear to prohibit such action and to a biblical understanding of the headship (or authority) of male over female. Those for women in leadership highlight the dominant patriarchal cultures that have shaped the biblical world, its writing, and its interpretation, and argue that the larger biblical narrative pushes against the cultural norms to evidence a place for women in a wide array of leadership positions. While this is a seemingly complex issue, a lot of it comes down to one’s understanding of how we view and interpret the Bible. This seminar will wrestle with these many issues and seek to highlight a biblical theology for women in leadership.
