About: Dean is married to Rowena and together their lives are enriched by their three daughters and their partners, Lauren and Andrew, Stephanie and Josiah, and Hannah and Angus, and their three grandchildren, Olive, Isla and Hugh.

Prior to his retirement from active service in 2020, Dean served as a Salvation Army Officer for 30 years in a variety of appointments. These included four Corps (Church) appointments, two Booth College (Sydney) appointments as Education Officer and Dean of the School for Christian Studies, and a secondment to the Nazarene Theological College.

Dean is a research fellow of the Australasian Centre for Wesleyan Research (ACWR) and in 2016 he took on the role of Director of the Centre. Dean has "research-active status" in Theology and Philosophy from the Sydney College of Divinity, the University of Divinity and Flinders University for the purpose of supervising research higher degree students. His hobbies include photography, non-academic reading and listening to the music of the 70s.

Research Interests: Philosophical theology, Christology, process philosophy and theology, epistemology, metaphysics, the relationship between science and theology.
